CHAPTER INFORMATION

Reminder about timeliness of Submissions

Please remember to send me information about meetings as soon as possible after the meeting takes place. I usually send in my material to Ross Stone on the 15th of every odd month (Jan. 15, March 15, May 15, July 15, Sept. 15, Nov 15). If we miss one of these dates with your information, the information has to wait for the next issue (and it is best if we don’t publish too much old information if possible). Thank you!

Note on Conference Support from the IEEE

The following information, which may be of interest to chapters, was taken from the August 2002 issue of the IEEE SCOOP newsletter:

During the second quarter of 2002, the IEEE received in excess of US $800,000 in grants for conferences and projects. If you have any questions, or wish to pursue grant opportunities for an IEEE conference or project, please contact Karen Galuchie, IEEE Development Operations Manager, for assistance at +1 732 562 3860 or email her at k.galuchie@ieee.org.

Note on the use of email

During the recent Chapter Chair Lunch in San Antonio, questions were raised about the appropriateness of Chapter Chairs using IEEE email lists or email aliases to email members of a chapter. According to April Nakamura, Chapter Coordinator for the IEEE, chapters  “may contact their membership via e-mail provided there is an ‘opt-out’ option.  In other words, the Chapter Chairs are encouraged to send e-mails to their Membership but they must have a way for Members who do not wish to receive emails to take themselves off of the list.”

Chapter Chairs may apply for an IEEE mailing list for their chapter by contacting April Nakamura. The Chapter Chair would be the person responsible for the maintenance of that list. The email address for April Nakamura can be found on the AP-S chapter web page (go to the AP-S web page at www.ieeeaps.org and then look under “Local Chapters”).
