IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Undergraduate Scholarships for 2001
The IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society will award eight undergraduate scholarships of $1000 each. These awards are made to encourage and motivate promising undergraduate students to pursue a career and/or graduate program in electromagnetics (or closely related fields) by providing funds to support project work directed by a faculty member.
Eligibility
- Undergraduate students in electrical engineering or related field.
- Must have taken at least one electromagnetics course.
- Must show strong interest in a career or graduate education in electromagnetics, microwaves, antenna engineering, RF engineering, or a closely related area.
- Endorsement of a university/college faculty member who is a member of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society.
- Previous winners will not be eligible for a second award.
- Scholarship awardees are expected to provide a short report describing the outcomes of their project (see below) in April 2002.
Selection Criteria
- Merit of the candidates proposal.
- Academic merit of the candidate.
- Recommendation of faculty members. The primary criterion will be how well the proposed project serves to introduce, prepare, and encourage the student to undertake a career and/or graduate study in electromagnetics or related areas. Research or senior projects in electromagnetics with potential student publication/presentation in a conference are preferred. Students are encouraged to consult and work closely with a faculty member while preparing their proposals.
Successful candidates will be announced in July 2001 and will receive the award within sixty days of announcement.
Application Material
- A current transcript showing all of courses taken and grades
- A one-page curriculum vita
- A two-page description of the proposed project (proposal). The applicant should include one paragraph that describes how the scholarship support and project will impact the applicants decision to pursue a career and/or graduate study in a field related to electromagnetics.
- Two letters of reference from faculty who are familiar with the candidate. One of those must be an endorsement from a faculty member who is also a member of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society.
All material should be written in English. English translations of the transcripts should accompany the originals.
