Ernest K. Smith

1922 - 2009

Ernest K. Smith passed away on October 21, 2009 at Frasier Meadows, surrounded by family.

Ernest was born in Peking, China in 1922 to Professor Ernest K. Smith and Grace Goodrich Smith. He came to America in 1940 to attend Swarthmore College. He completed his PhD at Cornell University. He had a long and beloved career, including positions at NBS, NOAA, the Jet Propulsion Lab, and as Adjunct Faculty at CU.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Louise, and daughters Priscilla Varland (Cy), Nonny Smith (Murray Johnson), and Cynthia Jackson (Robert), as well as eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Community United Church of Christ, 2650 Table Mesa Dr., Boulder, CO 80305. Contributions in Ernest’s name may be made to Frasier Meadows Retirement Community, c/o Krisi Wollman, Director of Assisted Living, 4900 Thunderbird Dr., Boulder, Colorado 80303.
